MY CART

They won’t remember my name, but they’ll definitely remember my logo skirt!

I could have just worn a conference badge, but where’s the fun in that?

Sewing a Logo skirt to show town pride!
Sewing a Statement: My Downtown Mooresville Logo Skirt

What do you wear when you want to stand out at a conference? A bold blazer? A power dress? Maybe a sleek pantsuit? Well, if you’re me, you sew a skirt that practically shouts hometown pride!

Last week, I attended the North Carolina Main Street Conference, where downtown leaders from across the state gathered to share ideas, celebrate revitalization, and, let’s be honest, do a little small-town bragging. This year, Mooresville was the host city, and since I serve on the board and lead a committee, I wanted to make an impression that said, “I love this town!” without having to say a word. Enter: my Downtown Mooresville logo skirt.

Turning Logos into Fabric Art

I took a creative approach to this project by gathering logos straight from our Downtown Mooresville website and printing them onto fabric photo paper. If you’ve never used fabric photo paper before, it’s a game-changer—it lets you turn any image into a sewable piece of fabric. (And yes, my sewing brain immediately went into overdrive with all the possibilities!)

Once printed, I cut each logo out, treating them like patches. Some are square, some are artfully trimmed into their unique shapes, and all are carefully placed onto my signature three-layer ‘Rosie’ skirt. If I had more time i would have accented the patches with vintage trims like I did on my postcard skirts—because why not add a little flair?

I then stitched them on in a way that makes the entire skirt feel like a walking scrapbook of Mooresville pride. I added a black hip yoke, cut it into vertical pieces to give it a corset look and an excuse to use my new sewing machine's multitude of embroidery stitches! Added some contrast trims for cohesion and whala!

A Skirt That Starts Conversations

Sure, I could have worn a name tag and told people where I was from, but why not wear a conversation starter instead? This skirt is more than an outfit; it’s a storytelling piece. I had many people stop me to ask, “What’s the story behind your skirt?” And that’s exactly the reaction I wanted! It’s a way to highlight Mooresville’s brand, showcase my love for creative fashion, and quite honestly, have a little fun while networking.

My logo skirt is almost done, need to add elastic.

Forget fast fashion—this is slow stitching with a side of small-town pride.

This project reminded me how powerful handmade fashion can be. Whether it’s showcasing local pride, commemorating a special event, or just making something that sparks joy, sewing lets you craft more than just clothes—it lets you craft experiences. So, if you’ve got an event coming up and want to make an impact, consider designing a wearable statement piece. And if you need ideas, you know where to find me—I’ll be the one twirling around in my Mooresville masterpiece! And on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/c/FutureFashionDesigners

Looking back, I’d say my skirt did its job—turning heads, sparking conversations, and proving that fashion and hometown pride make a perfect pair!
