Threads Magazine, Design Challenge!
Last year, I entered the Threads Magazine Design Challenge, and the theme couldn’t have been more “me”: design a look for a summer wedding guest—not the bride, not the bridesmaids, but the woman who wants to show up and stand out.
I immediately started building a story around the piece (because that’s half the fun, right?). The search for the perfect fabrics took me from a beautiful print I discovered in Oregon to fabric shops in London and Paris to find just the right complements.
Piece by piece, it all came together into a look that felt personal, playful, and completely one-of-a-kind.
The dress was featured in the annual fashion show for the Association of Design Professionals—modeled by one of my own design students, which made it even more special.
And the cherry on top? It won Best Overall.

This is exactly the kind of creativity I love helping other sewists unlock.
